16 Year Old Abby Sunderland Is Missing In The High Seas
60Abby Sunderland, a teenage girl who is trying to pursue a dream is in the world wide stage today. Emotions are pouring here and there and people couldn't stop talking about her and her family as well.
Abby must be a brave young lady because she was never stricken by her fears in conquering the deep blue seas by herself. Of course she absolutely knew about how much risk she's putting into her young life and that death is a possibility but it just so happen that her dream is larger than her fears.
She was following the footsteps of her brother Zack Sunderland who at age 16 successfully sailed around the world and fulfilled his dreams of not only to travel around the world but also his dream of becoming the youngest sailor to circumnavigate alone.
Abby has been sailing halfway around the world for months now. She's been blogging every now and then to give everyone an update of her whereabouts and about what's going on in her daily life at sea.
According to her blog updates, everything was in good shape until early this morning of June 10, 2010 Thursday, Abby was in big trouble. A major storm hit her area with winds running up to 60 knots and her boat has been knocked down a few times by a 20-25 feet wave but fortunately according to her, everything was under control.
The last time she got in contact was about 3 a.m. this morning. After that, she was nowhere to be found. Communication has died down. Everyone was trying to get hold of her to get an update of how she's doing with the wind, the giant waves and all that.
Nobody knew about what's going on until reports were made from the American Search & Rescue authorities that they received a signal from Abby's emergency beacon (EPIRB). Distress signals were being activated , a clear manifestation that something distressful has been happening with her.
Search and Rescue operations has been executed. Airplanes and ships were deployed in the hope of finding her exact location and pulling her out from that dangerous situation. But according to some reports, air rescuers might only be able to keep track of Abby's boat and talk to her via marine radio if still available.
Forums and blogs are packed with mixed emotions for Abby's situation. Commentaries good and bad are scattered everywhere in the internet. There are people who understands her, sending out their prayers for her safety and there are also people who are outraged by what she has done to her life and there are people who expressed anger to Abby's parents for allowing her to take such a dangerous venture at an early age.
Well, if I were to say something, I would rather say, this is not the right time to throw the blameĀ to someones face. Abby is lost in the wilderness and all she needs is our prayers. Let us pray for her safety. May God give her more than enough strength emotionally and physically. Let us pray that she may retain the same courage that she brought along with her the day she started her journey until now that she has to fight for her life.
God Bless her in her journey.
