Connect Your Computer Laptop or Desktop To Your T.V.

By

With the greatest technologies available, people has the luxury to connect their laptop or desktop to T.V. and watch movies or favorite shows on a bigger screen. There are various ways on how to do it. Some of them are enumerated below. You can start connecting your laptop using either of the following ports or connections.

This is very important. Before getting excited, please bear in mind that you can't just go to the store and get yourself an HDMI cable without knowing what type of port/connections your Laptop/PC and TV has in common. This happened to me though so don't follow my footsteps and get frustrated at the end of the day. (lol)

All you need to do to begin with is to check your laptop or PC and see what type of ports/connections it is equiped with, whether it has an S-Video port (common to all computers), VGA port, or the best quality HDMI port. Then go to your TV and check if any of those ports match your PC ports. The most common of them all is the S-Video port. You surely have it I know but check some more because you might also have a VGA port aside from the S-Video as these two ports usually come together. But if you are lucky enough to have an HDMI port on your PC and your television is HDTV, then go for HDMI for best quality.

S-Video Cable

1. S-Video (Separate Video) - is the most common, popular and cheapest cable available. It is round with 4 or 7 pins. Most computers and television sets come with an S-Video Port. But.....you have to be aware that S-Video is only for video connections. It doesn't apply to sound connections. So, if you'll buy an S-Video cable, you have to get an audio connector as well. One end which is a single connector should be attached to the headset dock of your laptop or PC and the other end should be a dual connector (left and right) that will be attached to your TV audio port. It usually comes in colors red and white for audio. S-Video delivers poor quality picture to your TV. To read S-Video connection "How To Instruction" Click Here

VGA Cable

2. VGA (Video Graphics Array) - HDTV or High Definition Television is equiped with a VGA connection port.It is rectangular in shape with 15 pin holes. If you have an HDTV then you may want to use the VGA connector for a better quality picture instead of an S-Video cable. Don't attempt to buy VGA cable if your TV is not HD (High Definition) because regular TV sets doesn't usually come with a VGA port. Like an S-Video, you also have to be aware that VGA cable doesn't transfer sound but only video graphics. If you purchase the VGA cable, you should also buy an audio connector as well. Before buying any audio cable, make sure to check your audio TV input because some or most HDTV have a specialized audio input and this is called "PC Audio". Check it out if you have "PC Audio" written at the back of your TV. If you have this then that should be the one you have to buy. It should be a one point connector on each end. You can plug this either from your laptop to your PC Audio at the back of your TV or from your laptop to your surround sound speaker for optimun result. HDMI Cable

3. HDMI ( High-Definition Multimedia Interface) - Using HDMI connection is the best option so far because it transfers the best sound and best video quality to your High Definition TV. Unlike S-Video and VGA connectors, HDMI cable is compact with both audio and video interface for transmitting uncompressed digital data. Uncompressed and Digital are the key words here. The files being transfered from your laptop to your TV are not compressed that's why your TV receives the original picture and sound quality. When you buy an HDMI cable, you don't have to buy an audio connector/cable at all.
